Doxa SA was founded in 1889 by Georges Ducommun (aged 21) in Le Locle, Switzerland. The name Doxa (Δόξα) means “glory” in Greek. Ducommun quickly established a reputation for precision, including an eight-day caliber patented in 1908 used in Bugatti dashboard clocks and aircraft from 1911, and rally timers for the motor racing world.

Doxa's enduring collector identity centres on its diving watches: the SUB 300 (1967) introduced the patented no-decompression bezel, helium release valve, and iconic high-visibility orange dial, developed in collaboration with Jacques Cousteau's U.S. Divers organisation. The SUB was popularised further by author Clive Cussler. Production lapsed in 1983; the brand was revived in 1997 by the Jenny family under Walca SA. Today Doxa is a respected independent brand whose vintage SUB variants are actively collected.
