A few brief clarifications

As I have received dozens of emails with similar comments, I would like to make some brief clarifications:

  • I am not Dr Ranfft, unfortunately he passed away in early 2023. At the time of writing, it is not known whether the data and tools generated by Ranfft still exist.
  • This project aims to be an alternative to the original. With more calibers, more information and more photos. At the moment it has thousands of calibers more than the original.
  • As a tribute I decided to rename my original project to Ranfft.org.
  • The only difference between a registered user and an unregistered user is that registered users can moderate anonymous corrections.
  • All data is published and freely available. You do not need an account to access it or send corrections.

About the data used in this database

They are the union of two datasets I made, one of images and the other of technical data.
The technical data is composed of:

  • Data taken from technical service manuals.
  • Data taken from service catalogues.
  • Data taken from spare parts catalogues.
  • Annotations made by Roland Ranfft for his website. These will be marked as a separate section within the notes.
  • Data provided by users who use the site.
The images data is composed of:
  • Data provided by users who use the site.
  • Data provided by watch manufacturers.
  • Data provided by internet search engines. Pages were filtered out that claim copyright either on the image or on their site.
  • Some old records may contain images that Roland Ranfft made for his site. They are deleted periodically with the aim of not using any of them.

How Can You Contribute?

There are several ways you can contribute to the growth and improvement of this project:

  • Anonymous Data Submission: Utilize our anonymous session functionality to contribute data without needing to create an account. This is a straightforward way to add or suggest updates to our database.
  • Active Participation: If you're interested in contributing more significantly, such as by uploading a larger volume of information or helping to moderate submissions from anonymous users, you can request an invitation code to register for a more involved role.
  • Financial Support: I maintain some public projects and for all of them I use the same Patreon account. So if you want to help cover the costs of maintaining and developing the project, consider supporting us on Patreon.
Your involvement, whether through data submission, active moderation, or financial support, is greatly appreciated and plays a crucial role in the continued success of this project.
