| Description | Eterna (Grenchen, founded 1856 by Dr. Josef Girard and Urs Schild) produced the world's first mass-produced alarm wristwatch (1914) and in 1948 invented the five-ball-bearing automatic rotor — the Eterna-Matic — whose bearing system became the global industry standard. In 1932 Eterna spun off ETA SA as an external movement-supply subsidiary, which became the world's dominant ébauche producer. |
