| Description | Alstater Watch Corp. was founded by Joseph Alstater (b. 1910, Belgium), who emigrated to New Jersey in 1940 and established the firm in New York City after WWII. Alsta became one of the most prominent postwar American sport-watch brands alongside Breitling, Omega, and Heuer; its Nautoscaph diver (mid-1960s) is its most collectible model. Alstater retired in 1971; the brand continued under Star Watch Company, Los Angeles, until the quartz crisis ended production in 1978. |
