| Description | Certina (Kurth Frères SA, Grenchen, founded 1888; brand 'Grana' from 1906, 'Certina' registered 1924) introduced its DS (Double Security) system in 1959: a movement floated on an elastic ring inside an air-gapped, heavily sealed case rated to 200 m water resistance and a 6 m drop. Over 300,000 DS units sold before the DS-2 replaced it in 1968; Certina DS watches were worn on the first Swiss ascent of Dhaulagiri (8,167 m) in 1960. Now part of Swatch Group. |
