| Description | European Watch & Clock Co. (EWC) used code EXU to import Cartier watches into the United States. EWC was a joint venture launched in the 1920s between Cartier and Edmund Jaeger (of Jaeger-LeCoultre) as the dedicated US arm for Cartier retail. Movements — typically LeCoultre 15-jewel calibres — were manufactured in Le Sentier, Switzerland, signed 'European Watch & Clock Co.' on the bridge, and sold through Cartier's New York boutique; a watch might simultaneously carry a Cartier dial, an EWC movement, and the EXU import code. |
