Alpina Calibers

Alpina is a Swiss watch brand with origins in 1883, when Gottlieb Hauser co-founded a cooperative of watchmakers in Winterthur. Relocating to Biel in 1890 and registering the Alpina name in 1901, the brand built its reputation on robust, technically progressive sports watches. The landmark Alpine 4 specification (1938) bundled anti-shock, anti-magnetic, waterproofing, and stainless-steel construction into a single consumer proposition — ahead of its time and influential on the Swiss sports-watch category.

Alpina did not survive the quartz crisis and ceased trading in the early 1980s. The brand was revived in 2002 and in 2016 both Alpina and Frédérique Constant were acquired by Citizen Watch Co. of Japan. Collectors prize pre-quartz Alpina movements for their quality-to-price ratio and the Alpine 4 series for its historical significance. The calibers in this database (107, 117, 106, 1109, 1110) represent the mid-20th-century manual-wind range.
