Revue Thommen Calibers
Revue Thommen AG traces its roots to Gédéon Thommen, who in 1859 took over the Société d'Horlogerie à Waldenbourg (itself founded 1853) in Waldenburg, canton of Basel-Landschaft, Switzerland. The company expanded steadily — 4,000 watches in 1870, 13,000 by 1890 — and registered the Revue trademark in 1910, after which the firm was formally styled Revue Thommen AG. Beyond its own watch line, Revue Thommen was a significant ébauche supplier: documented customers include Rolex (pocket-watch calibers) and Wittnauer, underlining the movement quality on offer.
From 1945 onward the company branched into precision aviation instruments — altimeters, variometers, and airspeed indicators — which became a parallel pillar of the business. Revue Thommen watches of the postwar era, particularly pilot-style wristwatches, are collected for their connection to aviation heritage. Today Revue Thommen continues as an active Swiss brand known for pilot and sports watches alongside aviation altimeters.
